MUSIC TO THE O2s EARS

The O2 in London has yet again topped the charts as the worlds number one event venue, selling 75 per cent more tickets than its nearest rival, in a poll conducted by industry body Pollstar.

The Greenwich venue sold just shy of 2.35m tickets last year, which itself is a 30 per cent rise on its previous record of 1.8m in 2008. The Manchester Evening News Arena was second with sales of almost 1.35m.

Musical concerts attributed greatly to cementing the O2s position. Highlights included eight nights from Britney Spears, seven from Beyonce and a host of performances from the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Green Day, Paul Weller, Bob Dylan and the biggest seller of all, Tina Turner.

These results are quite amazing and I want to thank everyone involved in achieving them, says president and CEO, David Campbell. Other events like the tennis ATP Tour Finals and Star Wars: A Musical Journey really put the eyes of the world on us. We will keep working hard to ensure we remain a world-class entertainment destination that London truly deserves.

The Sportpaleis Antwerpen in Belgium and New Yorks Madison Square Garden were third and fourth respectively, with Londons Wembley Arena coming eighth in the poll.
